This is the interior of the central dome in the Hagia Sophia, Istanbul. The most amazing aspect of Istanbul to me is the history of the different cultures that have been present there. An excellent example of this is the Hagia Sophia and it is evident in the Byzantine architecture with the dome and arches as well as the artwork. The Byzantine angelic figures in the corners, and the Arabic script in the central ring at the apex of the dome. The aesthetic of the calligraphy in that script is quite interesting to me.
